Suicide Strip is a fake trailer I created for the Hobo with a Shotgun trailer contest hosted by Yer Dead Productions (the guys who made Hobo) and Magnet Releasing. It was selected as a top submission pick by Jason Eisener, Rob Cotterill, and John Davies.
Suicide Strip is sort of a love letter to low budget B-horror of the 80′s, the kind that Roger Corman would have released through New World Pictures, plus I threw a little John Carpenter in for good measure. The style of the trailer is influenced by a blend of that era’s classics, such as the trailers for Alien (1979), Long Weekend (1978), Madman (1981) and… I guess Maniac Cop… just because there’s a crazy cop in it. I’m sure there are myriad other subconscious influences, but those were ones I had in mind while I was working on it. I put the trailer together in just under a week, with most of the shooting taking place in one night (anything with other actors than myself was shot that one night, and other stuff was shot here and there over the course of the week before the deadline). Editing was a mad 24 hour dash after shooting… another few hours would have allowed me to tighten Suicide Strip even more, but alas, the deadline came. We all had a blast making it, though, and I couldn’t have been more lucky to have the help I got.
Cast and Crew: Allen Gardner, Gabe Arredondo, PJ Boudousque, Shelby Young, Katie Wallack, Lauren Reynaldo, myself, and Jonathan Allen
